Continuing Education Certification

This is the form for constables to certify their annual in-service requirements.
This data is due by January 31st of each year for the preceding year.  

2024 In-Service Requirements

The Association has identified the following seven (7) mandatory topics and hours to receive a completion of 2024 in-service certificate from the TCA. All TCA in-person and online courses will include these topics.   Please note that your firearms instructor MUST be a certified law enforcement firearms instructor.  You still must receive a total of 40 hours but these topics/hours must be included:

  1. Firearms (8 Hours) Administered by an instructor who is a "certified law enforcement firearms instructor" TCA 39-17-1350(d)(3).

  2. Child Abuse AND Child Sexual Abuse (1 Hour)

  3. Mental Health (1 Hour)

  4. Emergency Vehicle Operations (2 Hours)

    • Must pass comprehensive examination to include:

      • 1. Training in the operation of the vehicle in emergency and non-emergency situations.

      • 2. A review of all applicable laws pertaining to emergency vehicles.

      • 3. Training to respond to actions of non-emergency vehicles.

  5. Active Shooter (2 Hours)

  6. DUI Testing Procedures/Refresher (1 Hour) Preferebly from a NHTSA course.

  7. Civil and Criminal Process (1 Hour) as required by TN statute 8-10-201 for Constables
